Harnessing the Power of Positive Experiences
Today, I would like to share some thoughts about the power of positive experiences in our lives.
Did you know that our brains process positive experiences differently from negative ones? It takes 20 seconds for our amygdala to register a positive experience, but only a quarter of a second for a negative one.
So, when you find yourself having a positive experience, take a moment to truly savor it. Spend at least 20 seconds fully acknowledging, exploring, and feeling it. This is very different to positive affirmations because here we focus on authentic felt experience.
By doing this, you’re not only enjoying the moment, but you’re also internalizing the experience. You’re training your brain to update its subconscious assumptions and biases, which can have a profound impact on your overall well-being. Even more so if you do specific work around your subconscious beliefs with the help of a good therapist.
Try it out and let me know how it goes! Remember, the power of neuroplasticity is in your hands
If you would like to go further in your “re-programming” of old thought patterns and subconscious biases, book a consultation. The methodology that I have developed – Connected State Therapy – is ideal for this. You can reach me at info@joesummerfield.co.uk. Please do feel free to share this article if you feel someone you know would enjoy or benefit from it.
