Unfreezing the Stars Within
Today I’m going to share with you a powerful idea that I sometimes explore with clients, which might change how you see yourself.
And that is of us each carrying within us a galaxy – every star or planet being a different part of us or our experience. As a side, one beautiful practice is to share a tour of one of these stars as an exchange with somebody.
Sometimes, when we have an experience that at the time we were not able to properly process for whatever reason, the “me” from that moment in time, in that experience, gets frozen within us, and a star is born. This little “me” is trapped and lives on in that experience outside of our consciousness.
And this is not without effect. First of all, it takes up bandwidth in our nervous systems. This can lead to anxiety, exhaustion, overwhelm, low emotional capacity, and the kind of symptoms associated with ADHD. It’s like having dozens of programs running at once on your computer.
Secondly, this little “me” that’s trapped in that experience will shape our experience of the present – we are more likely to perceive or interpret present events and circumstances as having resonance with that old experience, and as a consequence, that little “me” inside is likely to take charge of our reactions. We lose our capacity for executive function and we become possessed by this little one as he or she attempts to serve the most vital of functions. Survival.
So there is great benefit to be sought from safely opening ourselves up to notice the little ones we are carrying, and then tending to them.
In Connected State Therapy, we create the conditions where these stars in your galaxy can safely reveal themselves. We work with the self-revelatory nature of the subconscious to gently bring healing to these frozen parts. To learn more about this approach and how it might help you, click here.
